After church this morning, the last thing that my body wanted to was go for a run as a part of my ING NYC Marathon training. I went for a run yesterday and was underperforming such that I stopped my jog just after 2 miles. Yesterday, I was a bit discouraged.
My journey to raise money for the Alliance for a Healthier Generation has really been a daily lesson in leadership for me as I seek to balance growing a start up business, training for a marathon, supporting a close family member undergoing a difficult time and working more than 60 hours a week. Three words popped into my spirit today to help me frame the next 62 days until I cross the finish line. They are discipline, determination and dedication.
I have to step up my training regimen in these final 9 weeks in order to be physically where I need and want to be on November 6th. I am determined to not only start the marathon but to finish it because I am dedicated to this cause of combating childhood obesity.
Discipline. Determination. Dedication.
Those words are my mantra and although I didn't feel like it...I did work out today. Forty minutes on the stair master and twenty minutes on abs and with free weights. So I did after all discipline myself today to fit in my training regimen as I journey onward towards this goal.
This is what leadership is all about.
